Amid Lebanon’s ongoing systemic, economic, financial, and social challenges, WAD has remained committed to supporting schoolchildren and their mothers by alleviating psychological stress. Through fine art, drama, and music therapy sessions for children, alongside psychosocial support for mothers, WAD’s interventions aim to foster emotional well-being and resilience.

Psychosocial Support Initiative — Ecole des Trois Docteurs, Beirut

Amid Lebanon’s ongoing economic and social challenges, WAD Lebanon launched a psychosocial support initiative at Ecole des Trois Docteurs (ETD) in Beirut to help alleviate psychological stress among schoolchildren and their mothers.

Children at ETD participated in music therapy workshops that encouraged creative expression, emotional exploration, and the development of coping skills, with art and drama therapy sessions to follow.

In parallel, music therapy sessions for mothers provided a supportive space for relaxation, expression, and shared experience. The participation of a father in the sessions was particularly welcomed, reflecting the importance of inclusive family engagement in psychosocial support.

Through creative and expressive therapies, this initiative strengthens emotional well-being and reinforces WAD’s commitment to accessible psychosocial support and community resilience.

Following its success in 2024 at Mar Elias Btina School, WAD extended the initiative to Saint Mary’s Orthodox College (SMOC) in 2025, incorporating Drama Therapy for 16-year-olds in addition to Art and Music Therapy for children aged 9-11. As this phase of the project reaches its conclusion, WAD reflects on its impact and remains dedicated to advocating for mental health support within the community. Below are images from the project at SMOC.

Music therapy sessions were also given to the seniors staying at the Foyer Saint Georges affiliated with Saint George Hospital University Medical Center in 2025.

As for the mothers, they have also participated in psychosocial support sessions in order to help them manage the stressors of daily life. These sessions provide self-care techniques, somatic practice, cognitive therapy skills, as well as advice on how to be there for their children in times of distress.
